World Bank Knowledge Economy Forum VII: Technology Absorption by Innovative SMEs

The seventh annual Knowledge Economy Forum (KEF VII) on “Technology Absorption by Innovative Small and Medium Enterprises” took place in Ancona, Italy on June 17-19, 2008. The event was co-hosted by the World Bank Vice-Presidency for the Europe and Central Asia region (ECA) together with the Universitá Politecnica delle Marche.

The aim of the 2008 Ancona Forum was to build on themes discussed during previous Knowledge Economy Forums, while discussing new dimensions related in particular to the role of government in supporting small and medium sized companies (SMEs). These materials should help business incubators understand the implications and relevance of innovative SME experiences with regards to, inter alia, the benefits of cooperation between larger firms and SMEs as well as the interaction amond SMEs that leads to new product development, process and service innovation, as well as what it takes for governments to facilitate such cooperation.
